    Radiance Woodwind Quintet in concert

Radiance Woodwind Quintet presents a free concert Saturday. CINDI-JO AMMEEN

As part of La Grua Center's "Music Matters," Radiance Woodwind Quintet will perform a free concert of tasty chamber music Saturday at La Grua Center in Stonington.

The ensemble's Peruvian oboist Carla Parodi came up with the title ¡Vientos Con Sabor! (Winds with "Flavah") for this program of music in the Latin spirit. The quintet will perform Astor Piazzolla's "Milonga sin Palabras," Paquito D'Rivera's "Aires Tropicales" and, from everyone's favorite bullfighting opera, the suite from Georges Bizet's "Carmen."

Founded in 2006, Radiance has performed throughout the Northeast. All five players are current or former members of the U.S. Coast Guard Band: oboist Parodi; flutist Elizabeth Detweiler Jackson; clarinetist Kelli O'Connor (principal of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra); bassoonist Stevi Rehncy and French hornist Bryce Nakaoka.

They promise very lively surprises on the program, just the thing to spice up a cold winter's eve.
