    Ari. R. Cullers Birthday Memorial Fundraiser slated for March 30

    Montville — The second annual Ari R. Cullers Birthday Memorial Fundraiser will be held at 5 p.m., Saturday, March 30, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 91 Raymond Hill Road.

    Staff Sgt. Cullers, 28, of Waterford, died Oct. 30, 2011 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan while serving in the Army. He was a mechanic assigned to the 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division based in Fort Drum, N.Y.

    Cullers’ family organized a memorial benefit to honor his memory and raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Three bands will perform and a raffle will be held. Cullers’ relatives and the families of Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Edwin Rivera and Marine Cpl. Kemaphoom “Ahn” Chanawongse, who were both killed in action, plan to attend.

    Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the door, or in advance at the Montville and Waterford VFWs, the Black Sheep in Niantic, 12 Tattoos and LoKs Salon in Groton, and at the Jordan Village Barber Shop and Salon in Waterford. For more information contact aricullersmemorial@gmail.com.
