Chadwick drives to SK Modified victory

Waterford - Ledyard's Tyler Chadwick began defense of his SK Modified track title by winning the 35-lap feature as the Waterford Speedbowl began its weekly Whelen All-American Saturday night racing series.

Also claiming feature wins were Keith Rocco (Late Models), Salem's Corey Hutchings (Street Stocks), Groton's Ray Christian III (Mini Stocks), Dylan Izzo (Legends) and Jon Porter (X-Cars).

Chadwick took the lead from Todd Ceravolo with an inside move on lap 10, survived a challenge from Kyle James following a restart one lap later and pulled away over the final six laps to win by 10 car lengths. James finished second and Norwich's Tom Abele Jr. was third.

Rocco survived an early wreck to hold off Waterford's Dillon Moltz in the 30-lap Late Model feature, Hutchings passed pole sitter Al Stone III with 20 laps remaining to win the 25-lap Street Stock feature and Christian held off Garrett Denton to win the 25-lap Mini Stock feature.

    • Earlier Saturday, Groton's Ron Yuhas Jr. qualified sixth for today's Whelen Modified Tour's Icebreaker feature at Thompson International Speedway. Mike Stefanik will start today's race (3 p.m. start) from the pole.
