New London — An attorney representing Police Chief Margaret Ackley said Monday the chief has no desire to retire despite a special City Council meeting tonight to talk about a “retirement proposal."

“I don’t know why that’s on there,’’ Attorney Richard Padykula of West Hartford said of a scheduled executive session to “discuss the employment of, and a retirement proposal from attorneys representing” the chief.

“There’s no potential retirement for the police chief,” Padykula said.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 tonight at City Hall.
