New London - Police on Tuesday issued a misdemeanor summons to the New London woman whose car traveled over a parking lot barrier and came within several feet of falling off an 8-foot drop onto Crystal Avenue.

Police charged Jacqueline C. Gibbs, 25, of New London, with reckless driving in connection with the incident.

Gibbs, who was driving the Chevy Caprice with her mother in the passenger seat, said the car accelerated on its own and would not stop. The crash occurred in the parking lot of the Courtview Square apartment complex, where firefighters and city crews worked to pull the car to safety.
