John Markus might be best-known for his TV work. He was, after all, head writer for "The Cosby Show" and a writer/producer for "The Larry Sanders Show." But his latest creative enterprise is a little something for the stage.

It's the musical "The Fabulous Lipitones," which opens tonight at Norma Terris Theatre, Goodspeed's home for developing new works.

Markus collaborated on the show with playwright Mark St. Germain. His credits include "Stand By Your Man: The Tammy Wynette Story."

Just who are the titular Lipitones? Why, they're a long-running barbershop quartet that happens to lose a member just before Nationals. What to do? The three remaining Lipitones have to try to get along long enough to find their new singer. If you want to figure out where that's headed, look at the accompanying photo and read the press-release line about "what happens when white bread meets tandoori."

Directing is Gordon Greenberg, who has also headed up Goodspeed Opera House productions like "Happy Days" and "Pirates of Penzance."
