Police investigate grisly discovery on river bank

East Hampton (AP) — State and local authorities are investigating the discovery of what are believed to be human remains on the banks of the Connecticut River at the Portland-East Hampton town line.

East Hampton police say the body parts were found Tuesday afternoon near the Saint Clements Castle banquet facility by a worker there.

The State Police Major Crime Squad was called to investigate along with authorities from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The remains have been sent to the medical examiner's office in Farmington in an attempt to identify them.
