Groton — A Canterbury man was arrested Thursday in what Groton City police are describing as a "boating rage" incident.

David J. Barach, 52, was charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace.

Police said at 6:23 p.m. they received a report of an assault that had taken place on a vessel in Baker's Cove. When they arrived at the Bayberry Launch, they encountered a victim who had sustained minor facial cuts. The victim was treated at the scene by Groton Ambulance and declined further treatment.

With assistance from the United States Coast Guard, Barach was found aboard a 35-foot vessel in the area of Pine Island.

Police said the altercation stemmed from a boating rage incident when the victim operated his boat recklessly around moored boats.

The incident remains under investigation.

Barach was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on July 18.
