Challenger's fundraising eclipses incumbent's in Stonington first selectman race

Stonington — Republican first selectman candidate Glee McAnanly has raised almost five times as much in campaign funds as the incumbent Democrat, First Selectman candidate Ed Haberek, according to the latest campaign finance reports, which were due Thursday.

McAnanly has raised $6,775 and spent just $386, leaving her with a large amount of cash to spend in the remaining few weeks of the campaign. In addition, she has spent $3,947 of her own money on campaign expenses.

Her two largest contributors are Board of Finance member Bryan Bentz and his wife Mary, who donated $1,000, and borough resident Michael Lobdell, who donated $1,000.

Haberek has received three individual donations totaling $400, plus $1,000 from the Democratic Town Committee, for a total amount raised of $1,400. He has spent $874 of that, according to his report.
