Waterford Public Library to hold lung cancer screening discussion

New London -- Radiologist Dr. Louis Mazzarelli will discuss the importance of lung cancer screenings at the Waterford Public Library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 12.

Dr. Mazzarelli will discuss low-dose CT lung screening and offer tips on reducing risk of lung cancer. A question-and-answer session will follow.

There are more than 200,000 new cases of lung cancer each year. Screening smokers and ex-smokers with a chest CT scan has shown to increase survival rates for lung cancer by 20 percent. Dr. Mazzarelli will discuss how this test can make an important difference in patients’ lives.
