Nuclear Regulatory Commission to brief public on Millstone safety

Waterford – The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will meet with the public at 7 p.m. March 31 to present its assessment of safety performance at the Millstone Power Station in 2013.

During the meeting, which will take place at Town Hall, NRC officials will answer questions from the public about specific performance issues and the agency's role in ensuring plant safety. The NRC also will meet that day with the Connecticut Nuclear Energy Advisory Council about the assessment.

NRC officials in attendance will include: Raymond McKinley, chief of Projects Branch 5, Division of Reactor Projects; Jo Ambrosini, senior resident inspector at Millstone; and Brian Haagensen and James Krafty, resident inspectors at the plant.

The NRC's annual assessment of Millstone's performance was released on March 4. The report said that Millstone met all its health and safety objectives in 2013 and that inspections revealed no findings above "very low" safety significance.

The report can be found at: http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.

For information about the meeting, contact McKinley at: (610) 337-5150 or at: Raymond.McKinley@nrc.gov.
