New London school board to receive Carter investigation update

New London — The Board of Education will hold a special meeting Monday evening to discuss — in closed session — the status of its investigation into the background of Terrence P. Carter, the man unanimously chosen as the city’s next superintendent.

Last month, the board chose not to ratify Carter’s contract and launched an investigation after news reports indicated that he had misrepresented himself — or allowed others to misrepresent him — as having a Ph.D. for more than five years before he completed his doctorate.

Later, The Day reported that at least 10 paragraphs of Carter’s application for the superintendent job in New London contained material apparently copied from other sources without attribution.

The board will meet in executive session at 6 p.m. Monday at the Science and Technology Magnet High School. After the closed session, the board may take action “related to the threatened claims and litigation against the board.”

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
