Boat catches fire on Oxoboxo Lake in Montville
A boat in Oxoboxo Lake in Montville caught fire at about 6 p.m. on Friday, but no one was hurt, according to Montville Fire Marshal Ray Occhialini.
The boat, about 18 feet long, was fully involved when firefighters arrived, Occhialini said.
"Almost burned down to the water line," he said. "There's not much left."
The boat was about 100 feet off shore and may have been unoccupied; a resident on Lake Drive reported the fire, dispatchers said.
The Oakdale Fire Department, Chesterfield Fire Department and Gardner Lake Fire Department responded with a boat to the fire.
Access to Oxoboxo Lake is used mostly by residents with homes and docks around the pond.
The most accessible location for public access is from Camp Oakdale, a town-owned recreational area.
