    Blacksmithing class at the Seaport

Students in the Mystic Seaport's Basic Blacksmithing class work on creating metal gate latches in the 1885 James Driggs Shipsmith Shop at the Mystic Seaport, Wednesday, March 8, 2017. The six-week course introduces students to basic metal-working techniques and traditions at the historical forge. Instructor Owen Bostrom has been a blacksmith for 35 years and enjoys teaching the participants, including some who have signed up for the class multiple times. The class takes in six students when running and normally sells out quickly. (Tim Cook/The Day)
