    H.S. baseball: Ledyard beats New London 9-2 in ECC Div. I opener

    New London — Ledyard broke the game open with two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh inning to beat New London 9-2 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I baseball game on Thursday.

    Winning pitcher Ken Turner allowed six hits, two runs and struck out 12 in five innings for the Colonels (2-0, 1-0) and also contributed two hits and an RBI. Cade Walters added two hits and an RBI and Elijah Morton had a single and two RBI.

    Elijah Martinez had three hits and an RBI and Aidan Brennan had two hits and an RBI for the Whalers (2-2, 0-1).

    In other games:

    • Bacon Academy beat Waterford for the first time since joining the ECC in 2000, holding on for an 8-7 victory over the No. 2 Lancers in an ECC Division II game. Freshman Colton Vasseur earned the win and Kevin Rakowski had three hits for the Bobcats (2-1, 1-0), who never trailed after scoring three runs in the first inning. Jared Burrows hit a two-run home run and Sonny Pezzello added three hits and two RBI for the Lancers (2-1, 0-1).

    • Luke Leonard went 4-for-4 to help power East Lyme past Norwich Free Academy, 4-2, in ECC Division I action. Dan Allard picked up the win while Chris and Matt Malcom each added two hits for the Vikings (2-1, 1-0). Kevin Pomroy and Jordan Lake each chipped in one hit and one RBI for the Wildcats (0-2, 0-1).

    • Wheeler took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth inning and went on to beat Parish Hill, 7-4. Chris Caisse had three hits, scored two runs and added an RBI while winning pitcher Chris Haines had two hits and Aiden Cameron singled and scored three runs for the Lions (2-3).

    • Doug Delacruz walked, tripled and homered to power Montville past Woodstock Academy 4-2 in ECC Division II action. Jacob Plikus pitched five innings, allowing three hits and striking out 10 for the Indians (3-0, 1-0), and Rob Delacruz earned the save.
