    H.S. tennis: Stonington boys edge Newington 4-3 to remain unbeaten

    Stonington — No. 3 singles player Kyle Remmert rallied for a three-set victory to highlight unbeaten Stonington's 4-3 non-conference boys' tennis victory over Newington on Friday.

    After dropping the opening set 6-4, Remmert bounced back to win the final two sets against Ben Arora 6-2, 6-2 to lift the Bears (4-0) in a competitive match where three of the seven matches went to three sets.

    Stonington's No. 4 singles player, Filip Aubrecht, also won in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 while No. 1 singles player William Michelson was a 7-5, 7-5 winner and the No. 1 doubles team of Jake Stiger-Ben Anderson won 7-5, 6-1.

    In other matches:

    • East Lyme won an early-season matchup between Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I unbeatens, outlasting Ledyard 5-2. The Colonels (3-1, 1-1) picked up wins from their top two singles players, Nate McCracken and Chris Charette, but the Vikings (4-0, 3-0) won the rest. Sumeet Kadian and Eric Gu won singles matches for East Lyme as did the doubles teams of Conrad French-Sujesh Kurumbail, Jonathan Tan-Guillem Colom and Ethan Stewart-Sam Fresh.

    • James Zhu won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for Waterford during a 6-1 loss to Bacon Academy in an ECC Division II match. The Lancers are 1-3, 0-3.

    Girls

    • New London avenged a 5-2 loss to NFA on Thursday with a 4-3 win in an ECC Division I match. Zara Dobson and Michaela Emile won their matches for New London (2-2, 1-2) along with the doubles teams of Keren Gabriel-Francesca Ledoux and Luisanny Castillo-Isabel Rio Sayago. Anna Slopak and Hannah Crary won matches for NFA (1-3, 1-3) along with Kaitlin Cavanaugh and Emma Price at No. 1 doubles.

    • Old Lyme swept doubles play in a 5-2 Shoreline Conference win over Coginchaug. Keelin Hurtt and Emma Bass won singles matches and the teams of Shannon Nosal-Kellie Sablone, Samantha Caulkins-Emily O'Brien and Emma Danes-Lauren Wallace also won for the Wildcats. 

    • East Lyme swept singles play and beat Ledyard 6-1 in an ECC Division I match. Shauna Kim, Colleen Keller, Mary Katherine Taylor and Ashley Brown had straight-set wins for the Vikings (4-0, 3-0) along with the doubles teams of Erin Peterec-Neha Ande and Emily Zhu-Liz Beaulieu. Maddie Jackson and Megan Rosen won at No. 3 doubles for Ledyard (1-2, 0-2).

    • Waterford didn't lose a game in a 7-0 win over Bacon Academy in an ECC Division II match. Sophie Wang, Sophie Joseph and Stacey Tasoulas won singles matches for the Lancers (3-2, 1-2), who also won two matches by forfeit. The doubles teams of Megan Goldschneider-Micky Green and Nitya Somineni-Nidhi Somineni also won matches.  

    • Grasso Tech lost to Platt Tech 6-1 in a CTC match. Maria Pedraza won 8-4 at No. 5 singles for Grasso (0-3).
