    Superhero-talking president

Notice how many superhero movies are on offer these days? According to FlightsTightsandMovieNights.com, 2018 has seen or will see: Black Panther, The Flash, Avengers: Infinity War, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Deadpool 2, The Lego Movie Sequel, Incredibles II, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Aquaman, Bloodshot, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Gambit, and Henchmen.

It strikes me that this voracious American appetite for simplistic deus-ex-machina movies aligns closely with Donald Trump’s behavior and the perceptions of his base. Trump’s rhetoric is straight out of a superhero movie: “…I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger and more powerful one than his, and my Button works!” And it’s a movie his constituents love to watch because no matter what the bad guys throw at him, their guy always comes out on top.

And that’s the trouble. Superheroes are more powerful than the humans around them so they always get their way. With a superhero named Trump, this movie is headed directly toward tyranny. Or Armageddon.
