Comedic legend Steven Wright comes to Foxwoods Saturday

Steven Wright’s been doing stand-up for a damn long time — since the late ’70s, in fact. Considering that he’ll be headlining at Foxwoods on Saturday is pretty impressive. But he is a comic genius in his own right and a pioneer of stand-up in general. Rolling Stone and Comedy Central each ranked him in the top 25 on their lists of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time, and he won an Oscar in 1989 for "The Appointments of Dennis Jennings." Aside from that, he received two Emmy nominations as part of the producing team of "Louie" starring Louis C.K. and was honored as the first inductee into The Boston Comedy Hall of Fame.

His comedy style is unique and drastically different from anything I’ve ever seen. Relying on a monotone delivery and deadpan humor, Wright is a master at playing with the ironic, the philosophical and the nonsensical. His sort of humor requires you to think, but when his jokes register, you can’t help but burst out laughing.

Steven Wright, 8 p.m. Saturday, Foxwoods’ Fox Theater, $48; 1-800-200-2882.
