Maureen Murphy, a longtime New London educator, recently received the Spencer Shaw Educator’s award by the Connecticut Storytelling Center. She will be honored at the 38th annual Connecticut Storytelling Festival and Conference in New London April 26-27.

Murphy, who has taught literacy skills for all ages for more than 30 years, was recognized for her work developing literacy-based programs for families. As the parenting educator of the Even Start Family Literacy Program, she has worked with the Connecticut Storytelling Center for 16 years, engaging parents and children and developing early reading skills.
