Norwich — A fire broke out Tuesday afternoon in a dryer at a dry-cleaning business at 65 W. Town St.

Crews from the Yantic, Taftville and East Great Plain fire companies quickly responded to extinguish the commercial dryer fire, Yantic fire Chief Frank Blanchard said. The blaze at D&D Drycleaners was reported at 3:51 p.m. and mostly was contained to the dryer but minimally extended to the structure, he said.

No injuries were reported, though the fire caused heavy smoke damage at the business, he said. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire marshal.

As a precaution, the fire companies removed all occupants from all three businesses in the building, Blanchard said. American Ambulance also was on scene as a precaution.

Additional fire crews were called due to the hot weather, Blanchard said.
