UPDATED: Water main break in Bozrah will cut off service until about midnight
Bozrah — Norwich Public Utilities crews are repairing a "significant” water main break on Fitchville Road in Bozrah that was expected to cut off water service to affected customers until after midnight Monday.
NPU spokesman Chris Riley said the lengthy repair time is due to the location and nature of the break, which occurred about 1 p.m.
NPU crews shut down water to the damaged water main Monday afternoon and crews dug up the road to access the 30-inch main. The damaged section was to be removed and a new section installed.
NPU has made bottled water available to impacted customers through Monday night at the Bozrah Fire Station, 239 Fitchville Road, and asked residents to take only the amount they would need for cooking or drinking Monday evening.
"Please be assured that our employees are doing everything they can for this repair to be completed as quickly and as safely as possible," Riley said. "Your patience is greatly appreciated."
The break is not expected to affect Norwich customers, but NPU askied Norwich water customers to conserve water as much as possible over the next 12 hours.
