New London — Students at Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School have shifted to remote learning for the first two days of this week because of a recent positive COVID-19 case.

Superintendent Cynthia Ritchie, in an Oct. 16 notice to the Nathan Hale community, said “additional steps to the contract tracing process are needed to address the recent COVID positive case, that was announced Oct. 7th.

“Based on this new information, and in consultation with Ledge Light Health District (LLHD), Nathan Hale will move to a fully remote model on Monday, Oct. 19th, and on Tuesday, Oct. 20th.”

Wednesday is normally a remote learning day for all students which means in-person classes are expected to resume on Thursday.

The district reported on Oct. 7 that a district employee had tested positive for COVID-19 and that one classroom at Nathan Hale would be closed and its students shifted to remote learning for two weeks. The rest of the school had resumed in-person classes. The district is in the hybrid model and open to in-person classes four days a week, two days each for two different cohorts of students.
