Bank Square Books' pop-up store opens Nov. 21 in New London

It's not the sort of economy where businesses are popping up everywhere. But that's precisely what will happen Nov. 21 at 345 State St. in New London. Title IX: A Pop-Up by Bank Square Books will open for the holiday season in The Cottage, the stand-alone stone building that's part of the Garde Arts Center property.

The project is a partnership with the City of New London and the Garde as part of a city-wide initiative to revitalize the downtown business district.

Title IX is a reference to the 1972 Education Amendments that prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in educational programs and activities, and the store will offer a curated selection of books ranging from bestsellers to children's titles with a focus on social justice themes.

In a press release, Bank Square Books bookseller and Connecticut College graduate Olivia Dodd, who will be running Title IX, said, "New London needs a bookstore that will serve the people who work and live there, and we hope the books we plan to carry will represent that."

Title IX: A Pop-Up by Bank Square Books will be open 2-8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and noon-8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
