East Lyme schools report two new COVID-19 cases

East Lyme — The town’s school district has reported two new cases of COVID-19, one "specific to" East Lyme Middle School and the other to Flanders School, the superintendent said Thursday in a notice to the community.

The last time the individuals were at the schools was on Dec. 1 and Monday, Superintendent Jeffrey Newton said in the notice. Contact tracing has been completed and those who were primary contacts of these individuals have been informed of protocols they will need to follow, he said. He did not specify whether the two cases involved students or staff members.

Both of the schools will be open on Friday, Newton said, and no other district buildings are impacted by these cases.

“Please continue to be vigilant of any signs of illness or exposure to COVID-19 for you or any member of your family,” he said. “Your ongoing diligence will help us stay on top of continued transmissions, while we safely maneuver through the impact of any further cases that may come forth.”
