    Hospital union members rally for staff safety, remember nursing assistant lost to COVID-19

    New London — Members of the Lawrence + Memorial Hospital labor unions rallied Wednesday on the sidewalk along Montauk Avenue, across the street from the hospital, and on the opposite corner near the hospital entrance, to emphasize the need for staff safety amid the coronavirus pandemic and to remember one of their own who died of COVID-19.

    Nursing assistant Elva Graveline, who died of the disease caused by the coronavirus a year ago Wednesday.

    Later in the day, staff and union members, along with Graveline's daughters, Felicia Graveline of North Stonington and Shelly Crews and her family of Groton, released 10 white balloons that said "Forever in our hearts."
