Use surplus to address climate change

Politicians have always used the popularity of “tax relief” at times of surplus and elections.

Yes, we can always use a little short-range help; but at a time when “state coffers are overflowing” we have the opportunity to act long range.

We only have a few years left to mitigate the local effects of climate change.

Federal funds will soon be limited because of the frequency of damaging fires and storms. Do we have funds set aside to help us after our next big storm?

Have we reinforced our coastline? Are inland towns ready to receive and resettle “coastal refugees”?

Our children will pay for “the waiting game” we are playing.
