Jizzy Pearl leads latest Quiet Riot lineup for Wolf Den show

There are many reasons rockers might use fake names. One is that the would-be star’s given name lacks pizzazz or doesn’t sound sufficiently appropriate to the style of music he or she will be playing. Brian Warner became “Marilyn Manson.” Paul Hewson became “Bono.” Coco Phelps became “Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.”

Following that strategy, back at the start of his career, hard rock/metal singer James Wilkinson gave himself a new name. He became “Jizzy Pearl,” and I have to wonder if he shouldn’t have pondered a few more possibilities before he made his decision.

In any case, Jizzy Pearl has bellowed his way to a moderately successful career with a few solo albums and as a sort of journeyman vocalist for bands-in-need. He’s been the (never founding) frontman for L.A. Guns, Ratt, Adler’s Appetite and is now the 8th (!) vocalist for Quiet Riot.

Pearl leads the latter group, whose versions of Slade songs vaulted them to the top of the charts in the 1980s, and who still have original bassist Rudy Sarzo, into the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den for a free show Friday. I suppose you could say Pearl — who has a very fine voice, by the way — will be covering seven other vocalists covering Slade’s Noddy Holder. That’s interesting in an odd sort of fashion.
