Waterford First Selectman to announce re-election plans next week

Waterford ― First Selectman Rob Brule said he plans to announce his re-election plans during a gathering next week.

The gathering will be at Filomena’s of 262 Boston Post Rd. on May 18 from 5 to 7 p.m.

“Waterford has always been about bringing people together,” Brule said in a news release Friday. “We look forward to gathering, thanking people for their support and seeing many new faces as well. ‘Let’s Go Waterford!’ is more focused than ever on creating positive change and working collaboratively with the entire community.

“Our commitment to work together has never been greater,” he added. “In Waterford, we always go out of our way to help our neighbors.”

Brule was elected First Selectman in 2019 over Democrat Beth Sabilia. He earned 56 percent of the votes.

Brule served with his running mate, Jody Nazarchyk, and Sabilia on the Board of Selectmen until Nazarchyk’s untimely death earlier this year and Sabilia’s resignation in March.

Richard Muckle and Greg Attanasio were appointed to fill the vacancies and will serve until the current term ends. Both were members of the Representative Town Meeting prior to their appointments

Brule previously was elected to the Board of Selectmen in 2015, having run on a ticket headed by First Selectman Dan Steward, who served for 14 years, winning five elections. Steward did not seek re-election in 2019.
