THE VEHICLE: An estimated 61,000 Volkswagen Tiguan compact SUVs from the 2009 through 2011 model years.
THE PROBLEM: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received complaints from 26 drivers that exterior lights such as headlamps, tail lights and brake lights fail with little warning. Many of the drivers report finding melted fuse boxes. No fires, crashes or injuries have been reported. VW says it's cooperating in the probe.
THE SOLUTION: None yet. NHTSA investigators will determine if the problem is big enough to cause a recall.
