    A record-setting class at MSMHS

Emily Loflin is the school newspaper editor at Marine Science Magnet High School

The Marine Science Magnet High School is unlike so many other high schools. All of us chose to come here instead of our sending districts. For some of us it was because we really liked fish, for others it was because we wanted to go somewhere different and meet new people, and for others it’s because our parents made us. Either way we all ended up at Marine Science somehow and we realized how lucky we are.

In a school with 271 students it is hard to fly under the radar. Everyone knows everyone and at MSMHS we call that the MSMHS family. The community at MSMHS is so unlike any other school. All of the teachers support the students and the administration knows students by name. In this environment students push each other to excel and celebrate together when students achieve their goals.

In the Class of 2020, three of our graduates are heading to top U.S military academies. Our valedictorian broke the record for the highest GPA and our salutatorian was only 0.01 points behind. These are only some of the achievements from the Class of 2020, and I am sure there will be more as we continue to further our education. Although we did not get to celebrate in the typical MSMHS fashion, we still know we have the support of the entire MSMHS family behind us and know that they are rooting for us.
