For a fair and ethical election, examine complaints

After a bloody revolution complete with divine intervention, our forefathers embraced independence and formed a constitutional republic creating the greatest experiment in self-governance that the world has ever experienced. In order for this form of democratic bureaucracy to work, it must be supported by a concrete foundation guaranteeing fair and honest elections. The confidence of having your vote count is the most pivotal and powerful weapon citizens possess.

Americans never turn to counter-rebellions or violence; opposition parties fight the newly elected leaderships through equitable and appropriate channels and the legitimacy of elected leaders to govern is rarely questioned — until now.

By Saturday afternoon, almost every media outlet had proclaimed Joe Biden the next President of the United States. It has always been my understanding that the citizens of the United States, not media outlets, determine the outcome of elections. With recounts and legal challenges expected, the early call for a Biden-Harris coronation has been at the very least, objectionable. It took Bush-Gore five weeks in 2000 to reconcile a disputed election, so what's the hurry?

This is not a rah-rah pro-Trump commentary but rather a quest for enlightenment and resolution. Uncertainty breeds distrust, and all credible Republican accusations and allegations must be dealt with to ensure every American can trust the sacred process of the vote.

Every single citizen, including Joe Biden, should be insisting on fairness and transparency with an explanation directed at some troubling recriminations. Biden himself should demand the Democratic Party support such scrutiny and transparency. A noble gesture like this would prove to be the ultimate presidential act by the presumptive president-elect.

On the flip side, it's President Trump's responsibility to deliver a smoking gun to the American people. If he fails to do so, then this post-election crusade becomes a colossal waste of time. His team needs to put up or shut up and deliver credible evidence on alleged voting improprieties. The clock is ticking and his finish line is in sight. So, before we play "Hail to the Chief" for Biden-Harris, the president and his party have a right to argue that claims of potential voting irregularities be validated as fact or disqualified as fiction.

Nearly all of these claims will be specific to individual states, counties or cities and their vote-counting procedures. Some may apply in more than one place, such as questions about the legitimacy of late-arriving ballots.

The goal should be a fair and ethical election. The liberal media applauded Stacey Abrams for challenging election results and should consider supporting Trump and the Republican party's quest for transparency. For decades, Democrats' talking points focused on voter suppression and potential unfair voting practices. Here is a perfect opportunity for the Democrat party to appear magnanimous in the eyes of the American people. The Dems have nothing to lose if there is nothing nefarious to see.

If the president's allegations fall flat then he will appear as a narcissistic, ego-driven, egocentric, drowning madman, desperately struggling for a life preserver, and the 75 million voters who sided with the former vice president will be vindicated and Joe Biden will be cemented in place as the 46th president of the United States. If Trump's accusations are accurate, then 70 million Americans who cast their ballots his way deserve justice.
