Mohegan Sun Sports VP Amber Cox named COO of Kansas City's NWSL team

Amber Cox, the vice president of Mohegan Sun Sports, was named the Chief Operating Officer for Kansas City’s new National Women's Soccer League franchise on Monday.

“I’m thrilled to be coming home to join KC NWSL to help build out the vision of this ownership group,” Cox said in Kansas City’s press release. “It’s also a huge honor to be working alongside Coach Huw Williams who has accomplished so much in this sport. I can’t wait to get started on creating a fan experience to match the passion of our supporters and the talent of our players in the City of Champions.”

Cox was hired by Mohegan Sun on Oct. 13, 2016, and was in charge of business operations for both the Connecticut Sun and New England Black Wolves. Under her direction, the Sun were consistently among the top WNBA teams in ticket sales and saw significant growth in merchandising, broadcast distribution and partnerships.

Cox previously was the Chief Marketing Officer for both the Houston Dash (NWSL) and Houston Dynamo (Major League Soccer), the associate commissioner for women’s basketball for the Big East Conference, and President and Chief Operating Officer for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury.

“I am incredibly excited to have Amber join us,” Kansas City co-founder and owner Angie Long said in the release. “She is a fantastic leader in professional sports and shares our passion and vision to drive this team to the top.”
