Sun take UConn's Faris in WNBA Draft

The Connecticut Sun drafted UConn's Kelly Faris with their first round pick in the WNBA Draft Monday night.

"We were very pleased Kelly was available to us," Sun coach Anne Donovan said. "She brings a high basketball IQ, she's a great defensive player and she bring all the intangibles you look for in a young professional."

Faris, a 5-foot-11 guard, was the overall 11th pick and became the 13th UConn player to become a first-round pick.

In the second round (23rd overall pick), the Sun selected 6-7 center Anna Prins of Iowa State. Prins averaged 12.3 points and 5.3 rebounds for the Cyclones. And with their final pick in the third round (35th overall), Connecticut chose Andrea Smith, a 5-8 guard from South Florida. Smith averaged 16.3 points and 5.4 rebounds for the Bulls.
