Lake Monsters beat Tigers in 13 and regain first

The Vermont Lake Monsters scored a pair of runs in the top of the 13th inning to defeat the Connecticut Tigers 3-1 at Dodd Stadium and move back into first place by a half-game in the New York-Penn League's Stedler Division.

The Lake Monsters (34-32) scored twice on a hit bastmen, a walk, two sacrifice bunts and an RBI single by Bobby Crocker.

Connecticut starter Luis Angel Sanz allowed just one unearned run in seven innings, striking out four with a walk while allowing just three hits.

Jeff Holm gave the Tigers (33-32) a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a RBI single that scored Dean Green, who had singled. Aaron Westlake finished with two hits for Connecticut.

The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader today, but Vermont officials have already postponed the games.

On Monday, they will finish a game that was suspended in the fifth inning on June 25 with the Tigers leading 2-0. They will then play a seven-inning contest as part of a doubleheader, which will begin at 7:05 p.m.

It will be the final regular-season road trip of the season for Connecticut, which returns home to Dodd Stadium on Tuesday to begin a season-ending seven-game homestand.

The Tigers will play three games against the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Rays affiliate) starting Tuesday (all 7 p.m. starts) and then finish their regular season with four games against the Lowell Spinners (Red Sox affiliate), including a doubleheader on Friday. The last game is Sunday, Sept. 4, starting at 1 p.m.
