Tigers take opener from Doubledays

Dominic Ficociello had two hits and drove in a run Friday night as the Connecticut Tigers opened a three-game New York-Penn League series against the Auburn Doubledays with a 3-1 win.
The Tigers (23-28) scored two runs in the top of the first inning and added a run in the fifth inning. Curt Powell, Kasey Coffman and Zach Kirksey scored runs and Ben Verlander drove in a run for Connecticut.
Ryan Beck (3-0) got the win in relief of Austin Pritcher. The two allowed five hits over eight innings. Zac Reininger struck out the side in the ninth to save his seventh save.
