IronBirds launch 16 hits in rout of Tigers
The Aberdeen IronBirds connected for 16 hits, seven for extra bases, in a 10-2 victory over the Connecticut Tigers in a New York-Penn League baseball game played before 2,709 fans at Dodd Stadium.
Federico Castagnini highlighted the IronBirds' effort with a two-run home run in the third inning, which made the score 3-0. Aberdeen went on to score one in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth to lead 9-0.
The Tigers (25-31) managed just four hits, three off Aberdeen starter Mitch Horacek, who lasted six innings, striking out eight.
Connecticut will play Aberdeen again at 7:05 tonight in the second of a three-game series.
