    Pre-game preview: Yale

UConn and Yale play a rare weekday matinee today at the XL Center in Hartford.

The Huskies haven't lost to an in-state team since the 1986-87 season when they were beaten by Yale (77-75 OT) on Dec. 2 and Hartford (49-48) on Dec. 29.

Also, UConn dropped a spot in the AP top 25 poll, slipping to No. 19. Oregon, which beat Georgetown, jumped ahead of the Huskies.

    Here's a short preview:

    Records: Yale 1-0, UConn 1-0

Last game: Yale defeated Central Connecticut, 93-77, Saturday; UConn beat Maryland, 78-77, Friday

Probable starters: UConn, 6-0 jr. guard Ryan Boatright (9 pts), 6-1 sr. guard Shabazz Napier (18 pts, 7 rebs, 7 assists), 6-5 so. guard Omar Calhoun (10 pts), 6-8 jr. forward DeAndre Daniels (8 pts), 6-10 so. center Phil Nolan (2 pts, 3 rebs)

Yale, 6-4 jr. guard Javier Duren (16 pts), 6-5 so. guard Nick Victor (6 pts), 6-6 jr. guard Armani Cotton (17 pts, 6 rebs), 6-6 jr. forward Brandon Sherrod (5 pts, 4 rebs), 6-8 so. forward Justin Sears (26 pts, 13 rebs)

    Noteworthy:

-- First meeting between since 2003 when top-ranked UConn rallied for a 70-60 win. Huskies lead series 43-22, winning 12 in a row.

-- Yale came back from a 17-point second half deficit against CCSU. Sears had career highs for points (26) and rebounds (13).

-- Bulldogs picked third in Ivy League preseason media poll.

-- Big Bulldogs: 13 players on roster at 6-5 or taller. Led Ivy in rebounding last season.

-- UConn reserves had 31 points against Maryland, more than any game last season. The Huskies cracked the 20-point mark only twice, getting 25 vs. Wake Forest and 20 vs. Villanova.

-- Top reserve: 6-7 jr. forward Matt Townsend (8 pts, 4 rebs).

-- Player to watch: Daniels, who got off to a slow start in the season opener with only 8 points and two rebounds.

-- Yale’s Isaiah Salafia and Sherrod were teammates with UConn’s Tyler Olander on a high school all-star team.

-- Napier made the weekly American Athletic Conference honor roll. Kadeem Jack of Rutgers earned player of the week honors and South Florida's Chris Perry was named top rookie.

-- Next: UConn hosts Detroit Thursday at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs.
