    Pre-game preview: Tulsa

Remember when UConn’s big conference games used to be against Syracuse and Georgetown?

Now a game at Tulsa is considered a heavyweight match-up in the American Athletic Conference.

Tulsa (10-5, 3-) is the only AAC team with an undefeated league record.

UConn (9-5, 2-1) can move into a tie for first place with a victory tonight at the Reynolds Center.

    Here’s a pre-game preview:

    -- Tip-off: 9:30 p.m. (CBS Sports Network)

-- Last game: UConn beat Cincinnati, 62-56, Saturday; Tulsa won at Temple, 63-56, Saturday

    -- Probable starters:

UConn, 6-0 sr. guard Ryan Boatright (16.9 pts, 4.9 rebs, 4.4 assists), r-s so. Rodney Purvis (9.4 pts), 6-7 fr. forward Daniel Hamilton (10.3 pts, 5.7 rebs), 6-9 so. forward Kentan Facey (6.5 pts, 6.6 rebs), 7-0 so. center Amida Brimah (11.0 pts, 5.4 rebs, 2.8 blks)

    Noteworthy:

-- UConn is attempting to extend its winning streak to a season-best four straight games. Tulsa is riding five game unbeaten streak, allowing foes to shot 35 percent from field during that stretch.

-- It’s only the second meeting in series, with UConn winning, 89-68, in the 1978 Connecticut Mutual Classic at the New Haven Coliseum.

-- This is the first time that Tulsa has hosted the defending national champion since 1980. So it’s a big deal for the Golden Hurricane.

“We’re playing a team that cut down the nets and played in the last game last year,” coach Frank Haith said told the Tulsa World. “I think it’s great for our community, the University of Tulsa, this league.

“That’s what joining this league is all about, the types of teams we are going to bring here to the ReynoldsCenter. That’s got to be exciting for our fan base.”

-- The game pits two of the conference’s top backcourts. Boatright, the conference’s preseason player of the year, ranks first in scoring overall in the AAC while Harrison is third.

Woodard is a conference preseason first team pick.

-- Tulsa’s conference wins came against Temple, Houston and Central Florida.

-- The Huskies are 2-0 in true road games, the Golden Hurricane 6-2 at home.

-- Brimah is first in the AAC in field goal percentage at 67.4.

-- Hot: Harrison is averaging 22.3 points in last seven games after scoring 9.9 in the first eight. Cold: UConn reserve Sam Cassell Jr. us shooting 27.4 percent.

-- The Huskies are averaging 57.7 points and allowing 52.3 in three AAC games. Only Boatright (10.0) is scoring in double figures in three conference games.

-- In the depth department, UConn has the edge. Only one Tulsa reserve – guard Rashad Ray (6.9 points – averages more than 2.1 points per game. Haith mainly uses a seven-man rotation.

Ollie has gone 10 players deep in the last couple of games.

Junior Omar Calhoun has been a spark, averaging 10 points in the last five games. Overall, he’s 21-for-40 (52.5 percent) from the field.

-- UConn can’t afford to get off to a slow start on the road. The Huskies are 3-5 overall when trailing at halftime this season.

-- Up next: UConn visits Stanford on Saturday.
