Eight ECC wrestlers reach State Open finals

— Eight Eastern Connecticut Conference wrestlers advanced to the finals of the CIAC State Open tournament on Saturday at the New Haven Athletic Center, including a matchup between East Lyme’s Ryan Clarke and Ledyard’s C.J. Satti in the 140-pound final.

The championship matches will begin on Sunday at 4 p.m. Also wrestling for Open titles are R.J. LaBeef of Woodstock Academy (103), Noah Smutnick of Woodstock (112), Nick Marouski of Windham (125), Tyler Banks of Griswold (130), Brock Coutu of Griswold (135) and Julian Hightower of Ledyard (189).

Defending champion Danbury has 84.5 points heading into Sunday’s final day, 12 better than Ledyard’s total of 72.5. The Hatters also have two finalists.
