    Theodore Zamzes

    Groton - Theodore C. Zamzes, 77, of 248 Fort Hill Road, Groton, passed away at Pendleton Nursing Home on Thursday morning, Oct. 9, 2008.

    Born on June 19, 1931, in Groton, to the late Charles Theodore Zamzes and the late Helen (Zeppieri) Zamzes Altman.

    Theodore was married on Oct. 4, 1954, to Rose Marie O'Malley in Groton. They lived in the Groton/Mystic area for most of their 54 years of marriage.

    Mr. Zamzes was also predeceased by his brothers, Dominic Zamzes and Peter Zamzes.

    Theodore grew up in Groton and graduated from Fitch High School in 1950 where he excelled in sports, lettering all four years in basketball, three years in football, and once his freshman year in track and field (his only year). Theodore was a four-time All-ECC guard in basketball, three-time All-ECC defensive end in football, and an All-ECC and All State sprinter in track and field where he finished second in the Connecticut Class A State Championships on Fitch's 4 x 440 yard relay team.

    Theodore then served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska. He was employed at Electric Boat for 30 years, retiring as supervisor in the nuclear quality control department.

    In addition to his wife, Mr. Zamzes is survived by his son, James Zamzes, and his wife, Cheryl; his daughter, Grace Chapman, and her husband, Wallace; seven grandchildren, Christopher Zamzes, Olivia Zamzes, Meredith Zamzes, Lindsay Zamzes, Rose Counts, James Counts, and Stephanie Neidle and her husband, Terrence; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Altman and his wife, MaryAnn; and a sister, Marie Davison and her husband, Frank.

    There will be no service or visitation.
