    Resources and donations for Norwich fire victims

    Resources for victims of the Norwich fire:

    Those needing help obtaining new social security cards, passports, Medicare cards or help with veterans benefits, can contact U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney’s office at 101 Water St. or call 886-0139. 

    Victims needing housing and other assistance can contact the American Red Cross at 860-678-2700 or the Norwich Human Services Department at 823-3778.  

    The following organizations are accepting donations or holding events to help the fire victims:

     Those who wish to mail donations can send checks made out to the “American Red Cross - Norwich Families Fund” to the American Red Cross, Charter Oak Chapter, P.O. Box 5003, Hartford, CT 06102-5003

    Items such as food, clothing and furniture can be donated at Norwich Self Storage on South Golden Street off of North Main Street.

    Those wishing to donate to the disaster relief fun set up by the mayor’s office and Norwich City Council can make checks out to the “Peachtree Fire Victim’s Fund”  and be sent to the Dime Savings Bank on Broadway in Norwich.

    Bob’s Place Sports Pub in the Comfort Suites Norwich at 275 Otrobando Avenue, will be donating one-half of its gross sales on Wednesday to the Red Cross to help the victims. It will be open from 5:00 p.m. to midnight.

    The Richard E. Hourigan VFW Post 594 will host benefit spaghetti dinners on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 5 to  8 p.m. for the victims. The cost is $8 per person and $4 for those under 12.  The dinners are a cooperative effort between Mona Lisa’s Restaurant, Daniels’ on the Waterfront, ShopRite Supermarkets, US Food Services, WalMart, Stop & Shop, Illiano’s Restaurant, and other businesses and organizations.  Fore more information  contact Rich DeLorge at  710-6565.
