After all these years, still melting with you

If I say “Modern English” and you say “I Melt With You” and then I say “Sure, but what else?” and YOU say, “Er, I don’t know any other songs by them” – then I say you weren’t listening enough.

The ’80s New Wave era gave us plenty of iconic bands and songs – and, like many of the acts from that time, Modern English is largely considered by lazy people to be a “one hit” phenomenon.

What might be fun and rewarding is if you head Friday to the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den and catch the free show by Modern English. Three seminal original members, including vocalist Paul Grey, are still in the band and, in addition to “I Melt With You,” you’ll hear some great tunes you didn’t know about – like “Hands Across the Sea,” “Dawn Chorus,” “After the Snow,” “Ink and Paper” and “Swans On Glass.”

Modern English, 8 p.m. Friday, Mohegan Sun Wolf Den; free; www.mohegansun.com.
