    Charlap Trio brings the jazz

In 2016, New York City jazz pianist Bill Charlap collaborated with vocalist Tony Bennett on “The Silver Lining: Songs of Jerome Kern” — and the pair won a Best Traditional Jazz Pop Album Grammy.

Charlap is in fact a highly regarded leader/sideman in the Big Apple’s elite jazz society. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Charlap brings his longtime trio, with bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington, to Old Lyme for performances at the Side Door Jazz Club. The band is celebrating their latest album, “Street of Dreams,” which dynamically mixes standards and selections from the Songbook.

Expect dazzling and clever arrangements by such composers as Strayhorn and Ellington, Kenny Burrell and Dave Brubeck.

Bill Charlap Trio, 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Side Door Jazz Club, Old Lyme Inn, 85 Lyme St., Old Lyme; $30-$50; www.oldlymeinn.com.
