    Crank up the laughs machine

    DeRay Davis (submitted)

Though his reputation as a fine actor continues to grow, DeRay Davis wants folks to remember he’s also very funny. Not just in an “make sure DeRay is invited to the party because he’s hilarious” kinda way; Davis is a highly respected standup comic. Think about it a moment and you might remember his celebrated “How to Act Black” special on Netflix.

Davis brings his latest material Friday to the Great Cedar Showroom in Foxwoods. Inasmuch as he bases a lot of his observational humor on his own experiences, expect marvelous stories AND life lessons. One of his best routines in that context? How to survive when a gunfight breaks out by hiding in the restroom — because gangstas would never murder someone who was, ah, having a bowel movement.

DeRay Davis, 8 p.m. Friday, Great Cedar Showroom, Foxwoods; $30-$40; www.foxwoods.com.
