    Sounds of spring

The New London Community Orchestra performs the first of two spring concerts Sunday in New London’s St. Mary’s Star of the Sea church.

Conductor/music director Kevin Bishop, who took the reins of the orchestra last fall, will lead the ensemble in recitations of Mozart’s Flute Concerto K. 314 and Bizet’s Symphony No. 1 in C.

The program will also tease with an excerpt of a work by Iraqui composer Ameen Mokdad. Titled “The Curve,” Mokmad’s piece will be played in full at the orchestra’s second vernal show on May 15 concert at the Garde.

All proceeds from both concerts go to the Music City Strings program.

New London Community Orchestra, 3 p.m. Sunday, St. Mary’s Star of the Sea, 10 Huntington St., New London; $10; nlcommunityorchestra.org.
