Keb’ Mo’ plays the Garde Saturday

    Keb’ Mo’ (submitted)

The first cut on Keb’ Mo’s latest album is “Good to Be … (Home Again),” and folks around here can be forgiven the conceit that maybe the superior blues artist is referring to his Saturday show at New London’s Garde Arts Center.

Mo’ indeed has headlined the Garde numerous times in the last 25 years, which has provided a nice and ongoing representation of his evolution as an artist. He seems to feel very welcome and comfortable here.

Mo’ is in fact from Compton and has lived the last 10 years in Nashville, and while his roots are in the sort of acoustic Delta blues associated with Robert Johnson, Elmore James and John Lee Hooker, Mo’ has adapted according to his own life experience and artistic curiosity.

Of late – and he’s now 71 – Mo’ is writing in a mellow, pleasantly contemplative style and delivering songs of warmth and comfort. Expect a wonderful evening with material spanning the five-time Grammy-winner’s career.

Keb’ Mo’, 8 p.m. Saturday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; with Anthony D’Amato; $42-$82; gardearts.org, (860) 444-7373
