    More than just boogie

    Foghat (submitted)

To his credit and ongoing energy, founding Foghat drummer Roger Earl still leads a version of what was and is one of the greatest “boogie rock” bands ever.

As with most phrases attempting to categorize a style of music, boogie rock doesn’t really do a lot to explain the niche’s possibilities — and is in fact probably more limiting than most. I prefer to think the original Foghat — which included departed geniuses “Lonesome Dave” Peverett and Rod Price — was a significantly excellent band whose melodic energy went well beyond the parameters of “boogie.”

Foghat plays a free show Friday in the the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den, and you’ll hear the requisite “Slow Ride,” “I Just Wanna Make Love to You,” “Night Shift” and “Fool for the City.”

But scream for the songs listed below and have your appreciation for Foghat increase appreciably.*

    1. “Chateau Lafitte ’59 Boogie”

    2. “Dreamer”

    3. “Road Fever”

    4. “A Hole to Hide In”

    5. “Home in My Hand”

*There’s no guarantee Foghat will PLAY any of these, but they’ll be impressed someone in the audience knows them!
