Everybody wants Tears For Fears to rule the world

Tears For Fears (courtesy Tears For Fears))

Genesis and Procol Harum played in Dallas’ Moody Coliseum on March 19, 1977. Personally, it was a dream lineup for me. But I couldn’t go because my first-ever band – the one I’d flunked out of college to form – was playing a REAL gig that night. I never did see Procol Harum.

Over the years, I missed a lot of concerts I really wanted to attend because I was playing my own – well, certainly not concerts, but …

Chief among those “missed” acts is Tears For Fears, which I consider to be one of the finest bands ever. Still haven’t seen ’em – but that changes Saturday when TFF performs in the Mohegan Sun Arena. And this is decidedly not an “oldies” show. Last year’s magnificent “The Tipping Point” album assertively testifies that TFF’s Curt Smith and Roland Orzabel are as fresh and creative as ever.

Tears For Fears, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Mohegan Sun Arena; with Cold War Kids; $59.50-$149.50; mohegansun.com.
