    Sweet sounds of Sailfest

One could suggest that Sailfest doesn’t need music. The endearingly popular New London festival, taking place Saturday and Sunday downtown and on the city’s waterfront, has a precise, multi-sensory chemistry: carnival rides, laughter, the comingling scents of fried dough and sausages, the ambience of the Thames River ...

It’s all sort of an enveloping aura unto itself.

But music is ALWAYS fun and, to that end, longtime Sailfest producer Barbara Neff has always worked hard to present a schedule of multi-genre live entertainment.

Look for an array of popular local and regional talent both days on the New England Ford Stage at Parade Plaza and on the City Pier Stage, with the latter venue focusing on Latin music Sunday. The Hygienic Art Park Stage will also be active with the Mojo Rhodes Band entertaining Saturday night and the Shoreline Folk Festival taking place Sunday.

It’s also worth noting that, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on the Parade Plaza stage, a New London Talent Show Reunion, featuring acts from across the history of that storied event, will perform.

Sailfest music, noon-10 p.m. Sat. and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sun., City Pier Stage, New England Ford Stage at Parade Plaza and Hygienic Art Stage, downtown New London; free; sailfest.org.
