Machine Gun Kelly, also known as MGK, is an emo-punk star who -- to those who might only have a passing knowledge of the genre -- sounds a lot like Green Day, Limp Bizkit, Fallout Boy or Blink-182. In the case of the latter, it makes perfect sense because MGK has been using Travis Barker, the Blink-182 drummer, as a producer in the last few years.

Interestingly, MGK came to fame as a rapper who, I dunno, discovered the joy of power chords and melody?

In any event, his last two recordings, “Tickets to My Downfall” and “Mainstream Sellout,” contain plenty of guitar energy and snarling but self-deprecating humor. The Grammy-nominated Machine Gunner appears Thursday in the Mohegan Sun Arena with State Champs appearing in support.
